The First Sale I Never Expected—And Why It Made Me Cry

They say you never forget your first sale, and now I know why.

When I launched Dear Angel, my heart was full of hope—but also doubt. Would people actually want handwritten letters from a time traveler? Would they find magic in the idea of receiving stories from a boy lost in time? I wasn’t sure.

And then, the first sale notification popped up.

I gasped when I saw the name.

Of all people, it came from a Thriender—a friend from my Threads + Friend circle—who also happens to be a freegan.

What’s a Freegan?

For those unfamiliar with the term, freegans believe in a world where money isn’t the driving force. They minimize expenses, avoid unnecessary purchases, and live on resourcefulness, community sharing, and sustainability.

This Thriender took it to the next level. He stopped working at 40, lives with zero income, and sustains himself on just a few hundred dollars a month—volunteering at the food bank in exchange for meals. He’s someone who truly embodies the idea of a “free” life.

So when I told him about my dream—building a FREE, FUTURE world where basic necessities like housing, food, and transport are available to everyone, so people can focus on creativity, passion, and purpose—he listened.

But I never expected him to buy from me.

The Sale That Left Me Speechless

Let’s be real—he’s not a snail mail person. He doesn’t buy excesses, he doesn’t collect trinkets, and he definitely doesn’t spend if he doesn’t have to.

Yet, when I launched Dear Angel, he bought a letter.

I stared at the screen, my heart swelling with gratitude. It wasn’t about the money. It was about belief—in me, in this journey, in the idea that something as simple as a letter from the future could spark joy.
